Position Summary: There is a need for the hospital to continue to develop the excellent clinical skills and expertise of the exisitng nursing staff. Taking a lead within the PG ensuring that issues within Clinical Practice are taken forward and that we can demonstrate evidence based practice that is continually being reviewed. With a multi cultural workforce it is important that new staff have an opportunity to work with them in practice. Practice development will be used as a recruitment tool and to enhance retention by ensuring the clinical skills and techniques learnt in training are translated and fully implemented with in the diverse hospital; environment. This post will be responsible for providing leadership and support with the clinical areas to see real improvements at the bedside.
General
Responsibility:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

 Adheres to the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and encourages others to do the same.
 Carries out all duties with due regard to the Scope of the Practice.
 Ensure nursing practice complies with statutory/hospital policy.
 Develops programmes of staff development within clinical area.
 Demonstrates advance nursing skills and contributes to the development of advance nurse practise.
 Contributes to the development of publishable material.
 Develops audit within the audit.
 Assist with the development teaching packages.
 Investigate and implement evidence based practice.
 Ensures own programme of study is maintained.
 Development of teaching strategies with Universities and other centres of higher/further education.
 Provide support for individual development, both teaching and clinical.
 Participate in the development of clinical supervision.
 Assist with the development of management strategies within the unit.
 Assist with the development of nursing documentation.
 Provides support to Hospital Nursing Management.
 Maintain own education in accordance with PREP requirements.
 To be conversant with all local Policies and Procedures and to act accordingly.
 Ensure the safety of patients and staff .
 Ensure that all equipment is used safely and effectively.

Requirements Professional Registration
ENB Certificates 100, 998, 254, 249
Evidence of first line Management Training
Degree in relevant subject area

SKILLS AND EFFORT
Knowledge of current professional issues
Ability to work with all disciplines
Ability to produce data and statistics
Evidence of research based practice
Articulate with good communications skills both written and oral
Precise and methodical in working practice
Work under own initiative.
Good organisational skills.
A positive and interested outlook personally and professionally, with skills in the co-ordination of services, the management of nurse and their delivery of care
