The department’s recent upgrade has resulted in the installation of 2 new Varian iX and Trilogy Linacs with full IMRT, IGRT, Gating and SRS capabilities. We have successfully operated the UK’s first CyberKnife which has treated over 100 NHS and private patients. We also have a Gamma Knife Perfexion, which treats over 250 patients (80%+ NHS) ensuring we have a world class range of radiosurgical equipment. This makes the cancer centre one of the most modern and comprehensive cancer care providers in the UK. Additionally the department also provides an Iodine 125 seed prostate brachytherapy service to three hospitals as well as a Radionuclide Therapy service.
The implementation of IMRT, RapidArc and other state of the art technologies has resulted in the expansion of the department.
